Marra Worra Worra Aboriginal Corporation (MWWAC) is currently looking for a passionate and motivated program coordinator to lead their Education Engagement and Attainment Initiative. This is a dynamic role that actively works to improve the education outcomes of Aboriginal children in Fitzroy Crossing.

ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Marra Worra Worra Aboriginal Corporation was established in the late 1970s by the people of the Fitzroy Valley and is the largest and oldest Aboriginal resource agency in the Kimberley.

The primary aim of Marra Worra Worra is to work with Bunuba, Gooniyandi, Wangkatjungka, Walmajarri and Nyikina groups in the Fitzroy Valley to strengthen culture, support community and create sustainable employment solutions.

EDUCATION ENGAGEMENT AND ATTAINMENT INITAITIVE (EEAI) PROGRAM

Funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA), the EEAI Program is a stream of funding under the Indigenous Advancement Strategy - Children and Schooling Program that invests in ways to support engage (or re-engage) young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children with schooling and education, with the aim of improving their education outcomes. The EEAI aims to improve education outcomes for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children by:

  • Improving relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and carers, families, young people and communities with schools
  • Overcoming or addressing barriers to participating in education
  • Helping communities value schooling and education
  • Using solutions and approaches proposed and designed by communities
  • Working collaboratively with other stakeholders including schools

ABOUT THE ROLE

The EEAI Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating the Education Engagement and Attainment Initiative program in Fitzroy Crossing. This includes:

  • Designing and developing a range of activities that are responsive to the needs of the local community;
  • Coordinating the delivery of engagement activities via a semester activity plan to improve education outcomes;
  • Utilising cultural frameworks to promote education engagement;
  • Building strong relationships with key stakeholders including families, parents, carers, the Fitzroy Valley District High School and other community service providers;
  • Leading, supporting and mentoring a small team to achieve program objectives; and
  • Meeting all compliance and contractual reporting requirements.

ABOUT YOU

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • A qualification and/or demonstrable experience in community development programs with a focus on child education and youth services.
  • Demonstrated experience in program coordination, preferably in the development and/or implementation of community-led, people focused programs and services.
  • Knowledge and understanding of school administration systems (or willingness to learn).
  • Excellent people skills, and ability to effectively communicate and build meaningful relationships with students, parents, teachers, community leaders, external agencies and other support services.
  • Ability to mentor, supervise and lead other team members.
  • Sound written and verbal communication, including the ability to represent MWWAC at meetings, and to prepare reports and other correspondence.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to bring people together and foster positive relationships between stakeholders.
  • Strong cultural awareness and knowledge of local culture/s.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.

Ideally, in addition to be above, we are looking for someone who has:

  • Certificate level (or higher) qualification in Education, Community Services and/or Youth Work.

Please note: In addition to the above skills and experience, the successful candidate will require an unrestricted WA “C” class driver’s licence, WA Working with Children Check and be required to submit a national police clearance prior to appointment.

ABOUT THE BENEFITS
