Gilbert + Tobin and NAAJA are offering a unique cadetship in Darwin, designed for an Indigenous law student like you. This part-time opportunity provides invaluable experience in diverse legal areas within a civil law practice including police accountability and child protection.

As a cadet, you'll be more than just a student – you'll be a part of a team making a difference. You will need to be enrolled in a law degree, possess strong communication skills, and be ready for occasional travel during university breaks.

Key Selection Criteria:

1. Currently enrolled in a tertiary law degree at an Australian institution with excellent academic results.
2. Ability and interest in undertaking civil litigation and casework, research and drafting under the supervision of an admitted solicitor.
3. Preparedness to undertake overnight travel to, and to work in, all NAAJA offices and remote Aboriginal communities during university breaks.
4. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including effective cross-cultural communication skills, and willingness to work with cultural and language interpreters.
5. Ability to work constructively with a diverse team of legal and non-legal staff to achieve NAAJA’s goals.
6. Ability to meet deadlines.
7. Ability to obtain a “Working with Children Clearance” (Ochre Card) upon commencement.
8. Satisfactory criminal history check and no history of disqualification from employment by a legal practice.
