The Law and Justice Project’s section leads a broad range of projects and programs that empower Aboriginal people and improve justice outcomes. Our flagship program is a specialised Community Legal Education (CLE) practice, developed and strengthened over many years and adapted to the unique nature and circumstances of the Northern Territory. We also lead NAAJA’s policy and law reform work collaborating across our frontline services and placing at the centre Aboriginal views of policy and laws.
This position will suit someone who is a leader and at the forefront of law and justice issues in the Northern Territory. The selected applicant will lead a team and will be highly motivated, energetic and with a strong commitment to professional excellence, and will serve a key role in policy and law reform.
The position is full time equivalent and will be based in Alice Springs. The salary level will be negotiated and will be commensurate with the knowledge, skills and experience of the selected applicant.
The selected applicant will demonstrate a meaningful commitment to developing cultural competency and will integrate this across their work and practice, as well as assisting the broader NAAJA practice in this context. There will be a level of independence and autonomy with this work and a need to collaborate effectively with a diverse team and with external stakeholders and organisations.
The work requires high levels of motivation, energy, and a commitment to professional excellence.
The Law & Justice Officer will also work closely with other members of the NAAJA senior management team such as the Principal Legal Officer, in relation to law reform and policy matters as they relate to Central Australia and the Barkly.
