The North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency Ltd (NAAJA) provides legal assistance and justice services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Northern Territory. We have offices in Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs. NAAJA’s THROUGHCARE PROGRAMS is currently seeking a YOUTH TEAM COORDINATOR to join our team. The position will be based in PALMERSTON.

NAAJA’s Throughcare Programs (Throughcare) aims to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples reintegrate to the community and reduce risk of recidivism following their release from prison across the Northern Territory. This is accomplished through strengths-based pre- and post-release intensive case management.

The Youth Team Coordinator – Throughcare will coordinate our Indigenous Youth Throughcare program in the Top End. The objectives are to provide culturally safe, client-centred and trauma-informed intensive case management support to assist young people on remand or in sentenced youth detention or placed in an alternative to remand to reconnect with their culture, families and communities and to break the cycle of offending.

The successful applicant will have proven ability in supervising a team of case managers, and leading culturally safe, client-centred and trauma informed case management of justice-involved Aboriginal young people and their families. They will understand the issues contributing to the disproportionate representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, families and communities in the criminal justice system. They will have excellent communication skills, to work collaboratively with Aboriginal people, communities, and government and non-government stakeholders.
