About Us

Community legal centres play a vital role in ensuring access to justice for everyone. They provide free, expert and holistic legal assistance and information to hundreds of thousands of people in Australia every year, particularly to some of our must vulnerable citizens.

With a long and successful history, community legal centres bring about systemic change through policy, advocacy and law reform. Direct access to communities that experience discrimination and disadvantage, mean community legal centres are often the first to identify laws, policies and practices that are unfair or have unintended impacts.

Community Legal Centres Australia is the national peak body for the community legal sector across Australia. We advocate on behalf of the sector and lobby for legal and social change. We draw upon sector expertise to inform government decision-making, advocate for legislative, policy and practice reform and build capacity in the sector.
