The National Disability Research Partnership (NDRP) funds research led by and with people with disability. We are looking for a Head of Research Programs to join our small, dynamic team.

This key leadership role works closely with the disability community, disability representative organisations, the research sector, and the NDRP team to oversee the implementation of the research program and design and deliver capacity strengthening activities for disability led and inclusive research.

  • The role is part time (0.8 FTE) or full-time.
  • It is a level 8 role with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Award.

About the role

This position, reporting to the CEO, will oversee the implementation of the NDRP research program and strengthening capacity for disability led and inclusive research. The role will build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders including research teams, Disabled People’s Organisations and Disability Representative Organisations, other funding agencies and government.

Responsibilities will include (but aren’t limited to):

  • Implementing and overseeing the NDRP research funding rounds. This will involve developing systems, policies and processes to support the research program.
  • Designing and implementing research readiness activities prior to funding rounds.
  • Overseeing the NDRP fellowship and scholarship program and developing and overseeing the mentoring program.
  • Developing tools, resources and learning approaches to inclusive research through continual feedback mechanisms
  • Facilitating a range of meetings, events, communities of practice, and other capacity strengthening activities.

We will have a small team who will all pitch in and support each other including the Head of Evidence to Action, the Operations Lead and Communications Lead.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who is passionate about inclusive research and evidence generation.

Ideally you will have:

  • Strong knowledge of research processes and practices including ethics, methodologies, funding processes and university structures.
  • Understanding of disability inclusive research practices, gained through working with the disability community.
  • Experience in designing and implementing major projects or initiatives, including work planning, scheduling, and reporting.
  • An innovative approach and the ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Sound understanding of the Australian disability policy landscape.
  • Outstanding communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and work collaboratively in a team environment and generate solutions and ideas.
  • A commitment to a human rights based approach and the NDRP principles.
  • Lived experience of disability would be ideal but isn’t essential.
