About Ngaanyatjarra Health Service

Ngaanyatjarra Health Service (NHS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled health service providing care to indigenous people living in communities across the vast Ngaanyatjarra Lands in remote Western Australia, near the Northern Territory/South Australian borders. Approximately 2,000 Ngaanyatjarra people live in the communities on the Lands. We are governed by an indigenous Board of Directors and are AGPAL accredited.

About the Opportunity

The Community Engagement Officer plays a pivotal role in advancing the goals and objectives of the Community Development Program. This position involves actively engaging participants in a variety of activities that align with community plans, with a particular focus on training for employment opportunities. The Community Engagement Officer will work closely with stakeholders, community members, and program participants to foster meaningful connections, promote participation, and drive positive outcomes.

Location : Ngaanyatjarra Lands

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Active Participant Engagement, Implement engaging activities for the community.
  • Developing job plans according to Job Seekers' goals and personal barriers
  • Employment Training, Develop and facilitate employment training programs aimed at enhancing the skill sets and employability of community members.
  • Contributing to the development of work skills and work habits of CDP participants through mentoring, training and support
  • Identifying opportunities to incorporate language, literacy and numeracy training for CDP participants into CDP activities
  • Financial Management, Ensure compliance with all financial management procedures and policies relevant to the Community Development Program
  • Asset Management, Oversee the management of company assets related to community engagement activities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Case Management and Client Needs Assessment

About You

  • NCAC is open to candidates with a range of skills and specialities, including customer service, administration, hands-on skills, or trade qualifications. 
  • Strong understanding of community development principles, social issues, and stakeholder dynamics.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Any experience in Employment Services, working with Centrelink, or similar will be beneficial, as will experience living or working with Aboriginal communities and an understanding of Aboriginal culture.
  • These roles are all located in remote outback communities, and critical to your success will be a willingness and physical ability to live and work in these conditions.
  • This position may require occasional evening or weekend work to accommodate community events and activities. Travel within the community and surrounding areas may be necessary.
