About the Role 

  • Location: Brisbane, QLD but we can be flexible with the location. 
  • Hours: Full-time, 38 hours per week (5-days per week)
  • Status: Fixed-term contract ending early December 2024

The Project Assistant will operate as part of the Queensland NDS team. The Project Assistant provides administrative support to the Project Leads and Queensland team, including helping to coordinate events and stakeholder engagement as appropriate and necessary.

The Project Assistant will also work closely with the other NDS project staff to deliver the Gateway to Industry Schools project and Queensland disability sector.

It is expected that the position holder is aligned to, and demonstrates NDS’s values of respect, teamwork and collaboration, leadership, innovation and accountability at all times.

A Project Assistant plays a support role in delivering NDS project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting in coordination and planning of project against contract deliverables and monitor outcomes.
  • Fielding general enquiries and maintain strategic relationships.
  • Providing and promoting a high level of customer service.
  • Supporting the project by attending meetings and events as required to promote project and build partnerships on behalf of NDS.
  • Supporting links between the disability sector and NDS projects in Queensland.
  • Working with the disability sector, community Service sector and other NDS staff to implement NDS managed projects and achieve their milestones.
  • Assist the project by using project management skills and processes to effectively and efficiently deliver NDS projects in Queensland.
  • Mentoring and training temporary administration staff.

Other Responsibilities (applicable for all NDS employees)

  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as required by project lead/supervisor from time to time.
  • Complying with NDS’s policies and procedures at all times, including (but not limited to) HR, Quality, Work Health & Safety (WHS), IT, Security, and Data Privacy Demonstrate the NDS values of respect, teamwork & collaboration, leadership, innovation and accountability in all interactions.

Skills & Experience

  • Excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the disability services sector is desirable with the ability to interpret and contextualise relevant information and messages for and about the disability sector.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including a proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of organisations and sector stakeholders from a range of perspectives such as government, disability service providers and people with lived experience of disability.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and an engaging communication style targeted to a range of audiences, including disability sector representatives at all levels.
  • Demonstrated initiative and creativity, and organisational skills, and the capacity to manage and deliver on multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Capabilities in the use of MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and online collaboration tools (e.g. Zoom, Microsoft Teams), as well as online communication platforms (e.g. social media, email newsletters).
  • An enthusiastic team player with an interest in people.
