For all people in Australia living with mental health and wellbeing challenges to live a life that is meaningful to them.
Peer Cadets will explore how to use lived experience learnings and apply their Mental Health Peer Work studies to support consumers at the Port Pirie Medicare Mental Health Centre.
Peer Cadets contribute to the transdisciplinary team approach by applying this lens and Lived Experience practice wisdom to strengthen service delivery. Peer Cadets will need to bring strong self- reflection and relational skills to be able to apply this lens effectively with people, in processes, and across a range of service partners.
Cadets will develop knowledge, skills, practical placement experience, and confidence in a structured and supported environment. Throughout their employment, cadets will receive individual support from a peer mentor, supervision and reflective practice opportunities that are discipline specific.
To be eligible, Cadets will need to be enrolled/undertaking their studies in Cert IV Mental Health Peer Work and ideally have completed a proportion of coursework, ready for placement. Applicants will be required to provide evidence of their enrolment and units that have been completed.
Peer Cadets will receive line supervision from a Peer Mentor to explore learning goals, placement experience, wins/challenges, as well as participating in regular co-reflection opportunities in Community of Practice and team spaces. They will learn from a diverse range of clinical and non-clinical professionals to understand how to collaborate and complement other practice approaches as a Lived Experience professional. Additionally, Cadets will undergo training and have access to other training opportunities.
