About the role

Neighbourhood Houses Barwon Incorporated [NH Barwon] seeks a suitably qualified and experienced Community Development professional to support, strengthen and advocate for Neighbourhood Houses in the Barwon Region (covering the local government areas of City of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast Shire, Colac Otway Shire and the Borough of Queenscliffe).

NH Barwon is governed by a volunteer Committee of Governance which delegates its operations to the NH Barwon Network Coordinator. The Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Coordinating and managing the operations of NH Barwon
  • Developing and sustaining a culture of collaboration and active participation within the Network of member organisations
  • Building and sustaining internal and external links appropriate to the work of NH Barwon, its members and the wider regional/State Neighbourhood House sector
  • Promoting Neighbourhood Houses and advocating on key issues

Skills, experience, and competencies

The right candidate for this dynamic role will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in community development, social work or relevant discipline with minimum 5 years’ experience in community development or related fields
  • Command of community development principles and practice, preferably in a Neighbourhood House setting
  • Excellent ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships with a range of stakeholders, including the ability to provide support, referrals and advice in complex or sensitive matters
  • Strong advocacy skills with the ability to represent matters of importance on behalf of members to a range of stakeholders
  • High level written and verbal communication skills in a range of formats
  • Capacity to work effectively with and resource a volunteer-based Committee of Governance

Hours

20 hours per week – part time and ongoing (subject to funding).

Classification

Neighbourhood House Collective Agreement (NHACE) 2018, Level 7

Location

The primary work location is the Grovedale Neighbourhood House, Heyers Road Grovedale. Flexibility to travel to member Houses is essential and the ability to work from home on occasion is available, upon mutual agreement

The successful applicant must have proof of right to work in Australia, and will require a current Police Check and Working With Children Check.
