About Ngaarda Media:

Based in Roebourne on Ngarluma Country, Ngaarda Media is an independent multi-media hub that provides Aboriginal employment, content production and broadcasting across radio, video, and digital media.

We connect communities by sharing language, culture, news, sport, community messaging and entertainment. We broadcast on FM radio 24 hours a day to an estimated population of 60,000 from our studio facilities in Roebourne. The only First Nations media outlet in WA with a dedicated daily five-minute bulletin focused on First Nations breaking news, we give voice to people in the Pilbara and ensure First Nations issues are acknowledged and discussed.

Role Overview:

Ngaarda Media Aboriginal Corporation (NMAC) is looking for an experienced, hands-on, solutions-focused Chief Officer - Operations to help manage the finance, funding, human resources (HR), business systems, operations, and service delivery personnel for our ever-expanding media operations.

This is a senior leadership position for someone passionate about business systems, working in community and assisting our Aboriginal-led organisation to grow and thrive.

As the Ngaarda Media Chief Officer - Operations you will work alongside the Chief Officer – Editorial (COE) and will be responsible for the operations, staff and financial systems of NMAC. You will be helping with the delivery and implementation of the Ngaarda Media Strategic Plan 2025 – 2029. This will include the systems, policies and procedures to ensure the success of the Plan as well as leading the funding, planning and delivery of key operations arising from the Plan.

This will enable NMAC to provide a greater quality of service and a broader client base and will build organisational capacity to achieve the target revenue streams from a diverse range of products and services such as radio advertising, outside broadcasting, event and corporate video production, photography and drone footage, corporate media content, translating and cultural project documentation.

You will also be required to advocate on behalf of the community with external stakeholders including State Government Departments and key service providers to ensure we have a healthy, safe and vibrant organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the implementation of the Ngaarda Media Strategic Plan including development of 12-month business plans in alignment with the Plan.
  • Maintain ongoing operational, financial, compliance and governance requirements for the Corporation.
  • Work within Ngaarda Media’s organisational values, code of conduct and policies and procedures, especially with regard to maintaining confidentiality and working in a culturally sensitive, trauma informed and community and client driven manner.
  • Contribute to a culturally safe and inclusive workplace and drive compliance with work, health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Find new sources of funding (eg grants, new partnerships, philanthropy) to ensure Ngaarda Media’s financial sustainability and reduce financial risk.
  • Manage budgets, ensure efficient use of resources and compliance with funding bodies. This includes assisting external consultants KPMG and Walk Through Walls on budget reports and grants.
  • Advocate for the organisation with key stakeholders and agencies to meet the needs of the community .
  • Help supervise and support staff to promote a productive, positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with the Roebourne community, the Ngaarda Media board, Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi Elders, the wider Pilbara community and other corporations operating in the Pilbara, stakeholders and partners.

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant qualifications or experience in financial, operational and/or community management
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication and organisational skills
  • Proven ability to manage sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work with changing priorities and tight deadlines for various projects
  • High level of financial acumen with experience in financial management and budgeting
  • Demonstrated experience working with variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a small and diverse team
  • Current C-class driver’s licence
  • Software proficiency in Microsoft Office and Xero, MYOB or similar.
  • Willingness to learn about and participate in broadcasting operations.

  • Understanding and appreciation for the unique issues facing Aboriginal communities
  • Flexibility to be able to travel and work remotely as required
  • Previous experience working with community organisations, media organisations and/or Aboriginal Corporations
