Nganampa Health Council

Nganampa Health Council is an Aboriginal Controlled Community Health Service supporting people living across the remote Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunktjatjara Lands in the far north west of South Australia. We currently operate from six main community clinics as well as conducting public and environmental health programs. We have an administrative centre based in Alice Springs and an administrative office on the APY Lands in the community of Umuwa. In addition to staff based on the APY Lands and in Alice Springs, we also have a workforce of health professionals and managers working from multiple sites across Australia to support our services.

Governance Support Officer

We are looking for a special individual to work closely with our Board and senior management team to ensure vital aspects of the governance of Nganampa Health Council are given appropriate administration, attention and care.

To do this we require someone who can:

  • Engage regularly with Board Members across the APY Lands to assist them to stay abreast of organisational developments;
  • Support Board Members to prepare for and attend Board and Board Committee meetings;

Work closely with the Executive Director and Health Service Manager to ensure senior management groups are provided relevant and succinct information to enable internal meetings to focus on agreed strategic goals.

About the Role

The Governance Coordinator reports through the Health Service Manager to the Executive Director and is accountable for providing effective corporate administration and compliance support to the Nganampa Health Council Executive, Sub-Committees, Senior Management Team and members in alignment with Nganampa’s strategic framework.

Nganampa Health Council Executive Sub-Committees will include but not be limited to:

  • Finance, Audit and Risk
  • Clinical Governance

The Governance Coordinator will own the outcomes of: 

  1. Coordination, planning and implementation of governance meetings, end to end from agenda setting to preparation and distribution of minutes (Annual and Special General Meetings; Board and Sub-Committee meetings, SMT meetings, Committee meetings) 
  2. Co-ordination, planning and implementation of key governance initiatives / projects as requested by the Executive Director and/or HSM. 
  3. Contribute to the periodic review and continuous improvement of NHC’s governance systems and processes. 
  4. Provide members of the Executive Committee with administrative and logistical support including acting as primary support for organising travel and all associated documentation. Develop strong business relationship across the Health Council and drive shared initiatives 
  5. Maintain the Statutory Reporting Timetable Compliance Register for presentation at relevant internal meetings. 
  6. Risk Register: Ensure review and distribution of compliance checklists for presentation at relevant internal meetings. 
  7. Risk Register: Maintain a checklist to ensure all policies, procedures and standards are reviewed for organisational and legislative compliance.

Selection Criteria to be addressed:

  • You will ideally have worked in a similar position with a private, public or not-for-profit entity in Australia.
  • You will have a can-do attitude and exceptional attention to detail.
  • You will have worked in cross cultural organisations and will be skilled in providing information for different levels and types of literacy
  • You may have been an Executive Assistant or acted in a similar role to senior management.
  • You will have good IT skills including with Microsoft word, MS Teams, Excel and PowerPoint or similar presentation software.
  • You will be available to travel to remote areas of Australia for short periods to support meetings of the Board and Senior Management.
