The Organisation

The Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF) is the leading human rights organisation in the region. Established in 1996, it is a coalition of 25 national human rights institutions (NHRIs) across the Pacific, South-East, South, North, Central and West Asia. The APF provides practical support and advice to its member institutions to help them to be as effective as possible.

The Roles

The APF is seeking two Projects Officers to join their team to manage projects and activities relating to Human Rights Defenders, capacity development activities across the region, particularly in the Pacific, and support to APF members on NHRI accreditation.

The first position will focus on a range of capacity development activities with a particular, but not exclusive, focus on the Pacific region.

The second position will focus on projects related to Human Rights Defenders and the provision of accreditation assistance to APF members.

Core duties for both positions will include:

  • Project implementation including monitoring and evaluation of project activities
  • Research and advocacy
  • Administrative and logistic coordination
  • Managing budgets and activity reports
  • Representing APF at meetings and other forums
  • Working collaboratively, coordinating with APF staff, consultants, key stakeholders, and networks

Skills Required

You are currently a projects officer/manager with qualifications in human rights, law, international development, or a related discipline.

For the first position, ideally, you have experience in implementing human rights capacity development projects and in monitoring and evaluation reporting within the Asia Pacific region.

For the second position, ideally, you have project management experience in the area of Human Rights Defenders and you have a legal background/experience.

Both positions additionally require:

  • Good understanding/experience of human rights and regional political institutions in the Asia Pacific
  • The proven ability to work effectively remotely
  • Strong stakeholder management and public speaking/presenting abilities
  • The ability to travel in the region as required
  • Excellent English language skills; fluency in another language spoken in the Asia Pacific would be highly regarded
  • Local working and residency rights for Australia, where you are now based
