Australian Federation of AIDS Organisation (AFAO) works to end HIV transmission and reduce its impact on communities in Australia, Asia and the Pacific.

AFAO member organisations represent the diverse communities most affected by HIV – people living with HIV, sexuality and gender diverse communities, sex workers, people who inject drugs, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

AFAO’s close connection with communities, provides rapid intelligence on changes in the HIV epidemic, allowing the organisation to respond quickly, and to act as a trusted communication channel to government, multi-lateral funders, research and clinical partners.

The Role

The Senior Project Officer is an integral member of AFAO, dedicated to the common goals of ending HIV transmission and reducing its impacts. The support AFAO in championing this cause by participating in innovative and strategic initiatives to achieve AFAO’s mission. Reporting to the National Programs Manager you will work on key projects from beginning to end.

You will create cross sectional dialogue, put together new testing models, and develop resources and papers. You will be managing stakeholders and seeing them through the complete project management arc. Building protocols, writing resources, convening meetings, and implementing and evaluating training plans is also a key part of this role.

Skills Required

You’re currently a project manager and an innovative thinker with experience in managing projects from concept to delivery.

You will have the capacity to conceptualise solutions to complex issues relevant to HIV, public health and diverse sexuality and gender identities and other priority populations. You will also possess a proven track record of autonomously planning and using systems management to map, implement and complete concurrent projects and meet deadlines.

Experience working or volunteering in community organisations in Australia or elsewhere is desirable, as is exposure to liaising with high-level domestic stakeholders, including sector experts.

Tertiary qualifications in one or more of public policy, social sciences and the humanities or equivalent experience in social change, policy, project management, or a similar field would be a key part of your understanding.
