About the Role
As Communications Coordinator, you’ll lead NIYEC’s communication efforts, crafting compelling narratives and strategic campaigns that amplify our vision.
You’ll engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, communities, and stakeholders, building connections through storytelling, social media, and creative communication strategies.
This role is ideal for a dynamic communicator who thrives on creativity, collaboration, and making a real impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Communication: Develop and implement a communications framework that reflects NIYEC’s values and goals, ensuring consistency across all channels.
- Engagement & Storytelling: Create engaging content (social media, newsletters, press releases, and more), using storytelling as a tool to support our long term impact.
- Collaborative Design: Utilise co-design strategies to effectively communicate NIYEC learning ecosystem and systems change agenda.
- Fundraising & Donor Engagement: Support fundraising campaigns by crafting inspiring donor communications, appeals, and impact reports.
- Performance Analysis: Monitor communications metrics and refine strategies to maximize audience engagement and impact.
About You
You’re a creative and strategic communicator with:
- A passion for Indigenous advocacy, social justice, and backing young people.
- Strong storytelling skills, with the ability to create narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
- Exceptional collaboration skills, working effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and youth-led groups.
- Analytical thinking, adapting strategies based on data insights to drive engagement.
Key Selection Criteria
- Collaboration and teamwork. Ability to work with team members both in person, and remotely, on interconnected projects. Ability to work effectively with external partners and stakeholders.
- Strategic Communications Expertise. Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing strategic communication plans with the ability to tailor engaging content across different formats to a wide range of audiences.
- Digital Engagement. Experience in developing and managing social media strategies that increase visibility and engage community members.
- Design Communication. Demonstrated experience applying strategic design thinking to communications, focusing on user-centred approaches that consider audience needs, cultural relevance, and accessibility.
- Organisation and Project Delivery. Ability to plan and coordinate storytelling and communication projects from ideation through to development and implementation.
Desired Attributes
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing or a related field; relevant experience may be considered in place of formal education
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and/or communities.
- Experience using social media and digital marketing tools to build community, reach new audiences, and drive engagement.
- Values alignment with NIYEC's vision and values.
