North Melbourne Language & Learning Inc

North Melbourne Language and Learning (NMLL) in partnership with North Melbourne Public Housing Resident Association (NMPHRA) are seeking volunteers to support the day to day maintenance and stocking of our Community Food Pantry in North Melbourne.

Pantry@3051 is a new initiative and is located on the North Melbourne Public Housing Estate at 12 Sutton Street. The Food Pantry is available for ALL North Melbourne residents to use and support

The philosophy of the food pantry is simple "take what you need and give what you can”

If you can provide approx. 2 hours per week of volunteering over a 6-month period - in the morning or the evening - and feel that this is a community project you would like to support, please complete the NMLL Volunteer Application Form attached and send the completed form via the 'Apply Now' link below.

We encourage community members from all cultural backgrounds and local residents to apply to become Pantry@3051 Volunteers

Pantry@3051 Volunteer duties include:

  • Moving food from our back-up pantry to the self-serve pantry
  • Cleaning pantry when required
  • Removing expired foods
  • Removing foods with broken packaging
  • Moving foods passed their “Best Before” date to the “Best Before” shelf
  • Taking a photo before shift and after shift and sending the photograph to WhatsApp Group (to monitor for high demand foods)
  • Reporting any issues with the pantry to NMLL Community Development Coordinator and Pantry Project Worker

Pantry@3051 volunteers will:

  • Be available to volunteer for 2 hours per shift per week
  • Agree to do their shift at the beginning and / or end of the day (exact times to be decided)
  • Agree to NMLL’s volunteer intake process
  • Agree to a police check (Pantry@3051 will pay for police check)
  • Have a current, or agree to apply for, a Working with Children’s Check
  • Be available for either face to face or online interviews - on Thursday 20 June from 10am - 4pm (face to face or online) or Friday 21 June from 10am - 4pm (online only)

Please note that although we don’t have a closing date for our volunteer recruitment - we will be interviewing and appointing volunteers as we receive applications.
