The Northern Land Council (NLC) was established 50 years ago under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act (Northern Territory), to assist Aboriginal people in the Top End of the Northern Territory to acquire and manage their traditional lands, waters and seas. We are committed to enhancing Aboriginal peoples social, political and economic participation by supporting their aspirations and amplifying their voices on a range of issues that impact their lands, seas, culture and communities.
These positions sit within the Resources and Energy section, which is a team that facilitates negotiations and management of resources and energy Agreements under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act NT (ALRA and Native Title Act (NTA).
There are several roles with responsibility for consulting with Traditional Owners about resource projects and ensuring that their rights are fully protected. Safeguarding these rights applies to the whole project cycle from exploration to closure as well as reinstating rights where projects have been abandoned.
As a Senior Project Officer, you will be overseeing multiple projects within the resources and energy portfolio. You will drive technical assessments, manage contracts, engage stakeholders, and ensure compliance with ALRA and NTA, making a substantial impact on resource development while championing Aboriginal rights and interests. As a competent Senior Project Officer, you will bring an understanding of Aboriginal land and sea management legislation. You will utilise your culturally competent and strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate, consult and collaborate with diverse stakeholders. In addition to this, you will have: -
