This role contributes to the development of the Statewide Suicide Prevention System Analysis project. The purpose of the project is to develop an in-depth view of the suicide prevention system in Victoria and identify gaps and opportunities for preventing and responding to suicide. The Population Health Analyst will source, interpret, and analyse reliable population health-based data and health system performance information.

We are North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN), Victoria's largest independent, locally governed, and run, not-for-profit PHN, dedicated to improving primary health care in our community.
What are Primary Health Networks?
PHNs have been established with two key objectives:
- Increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of primary health services for community members, particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes.
- Improving coordination of care to ensure people receive the right care in the right place, at the right time.
A typical week may include:
- Organising, interpreting, analysing and preparing population-based and epidemiological data to inform the Statewide Suicide Prevention Analysis Project.
- As required, undertaking desktop research of available evidence to ensure that the analysis plan builds on the existing evidence base. This is expected to include insights from previous inquiries into suicide prevention and mental health.
- Working with the Population Health and Planning team and the Project Lead to develop a data requirements and analysis plan.
- Preparing workshop materials, written reports, articles and oral presentations as required.
- Communicating analysis findings to decision-makers, including NWMPHN staff, members of the IPDS team, members of the Project Control Group, Project Advisory Group and other relevant stakeholders.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Tertiary qualifications in public health, population health, epidemiology, health sciences or equivalent.
- Highly developed technical skills in acquiring, analysing, interpreting and presenting data and information relating to health services need supply and utilisation.
- Proven experience coordinating population health and health services, planning data analysis, collaborating across teams, and adapting to changing priorities. Prepare written reports, articles and oral presentations as required.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with management and staff within and across teams to achieve organisational outcomes and an ability to be flexible and adapt to changing work priorities.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills, including conveying technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
Desirable
- Demonstrated knowledge of the primary health system in Australia, including its interaction with the acute care sector, as well as the challenges and opportunities.

- Experience in statistical methods for quality improvement and evaluation design.
- Knowledge of SQL, Python, R software.
