NPAQ is Queensland’s oldest non-governmental environmental organisation having recently celebrated 90 years of operation. Since foundation in 1930, 70% of Queensland’s National Parks have been gazetted or extended following NPAQ’s recommendations to the Queensland Government. Our advocacy is driven by science, professional expertise, impartial scrutiny and trusted relationships.
NPAQ is a member-based organisation with more than 500 members and 8000 supporters. NPAQ is also a Registered Charity and Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR).
We have three part time staff including an Operations Manager (organisational, activities and communications focus), a Conservation Manager (advocacy focus) and a Social Media officer.
You are an experienced leader or campaigner in the nature conservation field, with a track record of achievement of regional, state or national outcomes. You are also a competent organisational manager, providing constructive guidance and direction to staff. With excellent stakeholder and relationship management skills, you will work with government and the broader community to drive major and sustained investment in protected areas.
You are motivated to expand NPAQ’s profile and impact to deliver opportunities for the benefit of Queenslanders and international visitors who enjoy our extraordinary natural environment.
The right candidate will be ready to grow their impact, leading a small passionate team, establishing a trusted working relationship with the NPAQ Council and setting an inspired strategic agenda.
The purpose of this role is to provide executive leadership for NPAQ, commencing with the development of the strategic plan together with an actionable 3 year business plan and associated impact measures, milestones. This will involve ambitious initiatives to deliver on the international target for a QLD protected area of 17% by 2032 (currently at 8.5%).
Your advocacy and influencing skills will complement your knowledge of environmental best practice to strengthen the voice of NPAQ to advance its mission.
You will be a thoughtful and authentic leader, able to inspire, manage and strengthen the capability of a small, dedicated and highly skilled team together with engaging with a Council and Committees of committed and experienced volunteers.
