About Council for Intellectual Disability (CID)

CID is a peak body representing the rights and interests of people with intellectual disability in NSW. CID undertakes advocacy, information provision and projects that advance the rights of people with intellectual disability.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

Role and Responsibilities

  • Lead on policy, advocacy and campaigns as directed by the Senior Manager Advocacy.
  • Facilitate consultation with people with intellectual disability to inform policy, systemic advocacy and campaign work. Develop Easy Read submissions and other documents based on outcome of consultations.
  • Proactively identify emerging advocacy issues impacting people with intellectual disability and provide information and reports to Senior Manager Advocacy and CEO.
  • Independently undertake data analysis and research to support CID’s Advocacy. Develop detailed reports and recommendations for future action.
  • Prepare CID Position Papers, submissions and policy documents including responses to Parliamentary and other enquiries.
  • Support Senior Manager Advocacy in the development of Annual budget and reporting to funders.
  • Encourage and support the participation of people with intellectual disability in CID's work including external consultations and meetings. Identify and raise accessibility issues with meeting convenor to ensure effective participation.

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated commitment to the human rights of people with disability and the principles of participation and inclusion.
  • Graduate degree qualification in related field or equivalent significant experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited direction and effectively manage work to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent research and data analysis skills to provide the basis of policy positions, submissions and campaigns.
  • High level written communication skills for the development of submissions, position statements and other internal and external communication.
  • High level interpersonal skills to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders, including members, CID staff, government representatives and other organisations.
  • Ability to effectively support people with intellectual disability in meetings and consultations and to facilitate member groups.
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Office as well as experience using customer relationship management (CRM) software.
