About Council for Intellectual Disability (CID)

CID is a peak body representing the rights and interests of people with intellectual disability in NSW.

CID undertakes advocacy, information provision and projects that advance the rights of people with intellectual disability.

Role Responsibilities

  • Support the work of the Senior Advocate, Advocacy Co-Ordinator, Senior Manager Advocacy and CEO in the delivery of policy, advocacy work and campaigns.
  • Support the participation of people with intellectual disability in CID's advocacy work, including development of people’s leadership skills.
  • Facilitate consultations with people with intellectual disability to inform policy and advocacy work.
  • Undertake research and analysis of issues affecting people with intellectual disability, including coordinating advice and experience from CID staff working across the organisation.
  • Prepare reports, papers and correspondence relating to CID’s advocacy and campaign work.
  • Respond in a timely manner to requests for policy and advocacy advice.
  • Work on communications for the Advocacy and Campaign work, including e-newsletter, social media and website, in conjunction with Communications Team and in consultation with Senior Manager, Advocacy.
  • Ongoing monitoring, recording and evaluation of data and processes to allow for continuous improvement.

Essential Selection Criteria – Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated commitment to the human rights of people with disability and the principles of participation and inclusion.
  • Well-developed written communication skills with the ability to write evidence-based and persuasive policy documents, articles and submissions.
  • Demonstrated oral communication skills with the ability to represent the views of CID’s members at forums, in meetings with government departments and other organisations.
  • Experience in successfully working to deadlines while managing competing priorities.
  • Experience working independently as well as collaboratively both within an organisation and with external stakeholders.
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Office as well as experience using customer relationship management (CRM) software.
