CID is a peak body representing the rights and interests of people with intellectual disability in NSW. CID undertakes advocacy, information provision and projects that advance the rights of people with intellectual disability.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

Role and Responsibilities

  • Significant leadership role as part of the CID leadership team reporting to CEO.
  • Lead, direct and develop managers and staff to achieve high levels of performance and project and organisational outcomes.
  • Lead CID’s systemic advocacy program, in collaboration with members and advocacy team.
  • May lead in additional program areas if required.
  • Develop tactical policy and advocacy plans in collaboration with advocacy team and members to influence outcomes to improve the lives of people with intellectual disability.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of CID’s Strategic Plan and Operational Plans.
  • Provide high level advice to the CID Board and CEO about strategic opportunities to deliver on the CID Strategic Plan.
  • Manage contracts and reporting with CID governance and funding bodies to deliver all projects in line with contract deliverables.
  • Ensure systemic advocacy delivery is in line with a number of practice frameworks including: supported decision making, human rights, person centred, participatory and inclusion.
  • Identify, prioritise and research current and emerging issues to facilitate the full participation, equality of opportunity and leadership of people with intellectual disability.
  • Support the participation of people with intellectual disability in CID's work.
  • Oversee advocacy strategies, including but not limited to
    • Produce submissions that reflect CID’s position
    • Appear before committees
    • Public advocacy campaigns
    • Provide briefs for media engagement
    • Use of social media
    • Attend meetings with external stakeholders and advocacy targets
    • Develop the leadership capacity of people with intellectual disability
  • Develop and maintain strategic stakeholder relationships, strategic collaborations with human rights, government, parliamentary, disability and other stakeholders to advance CID organisational goals

Essential Selection Criteria – Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated commitment to the human rights of people with disability and the principles of participation and inclusion.
  • Significant experience in the development and delivery of projects and services including developing and managing project budgets and monitoring project progress.
  • High level interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills and capacity to problem solve.
  • Significant experience leading and managing teams.
  • Ability to lead to achieve results in a dynamic environment of organisational change, ongoing sector reform and competing demands
  • Demonstrated experience in productive working relationships with colleagues, funding bodies, government, peer organisations and stakeholders to achieve required outcomes.
  • Demonstrated high level written, conceptual and analytical skills in policy, advocacy with ability to think critically and laterally to explore and create new and innovative solutions
  • Graduate degree qualification in related field or equivalent significant experience.
  • Commitment to CID’s Ethical Framework

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • Established networks in government and disability, child and family, youth, social services and/or education sectors.
