THE OPORTUNITY
CID is a disability rights organisation led by people with intellectual disability. For more than 65 years CID has worked to ensure a community where all people with intellectual disability are valued. CID has a strong record of successful systemic advocacy and projects focused on full inclusion of people with intellectual disability in their communities.
CID, together with UNSW is a lead member of a Consortium that have established the National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health (the National Centre).
The National Centre is a new major initiative supported by the Australian Government, Department of Health and Aged Care. The National Centre will provide leadership in intellectual disability health, drive innovation and collaboration, lift the capability of health services to meet the needs of people with intellectual disability through training and development of best practice models of care and lead initiatives in data and research to inform improvements in health and wellbeing.
The work of the National Centre will be undertaken by four teams: Driving Change, Health Service Development, Resource & Innovation, and Research & Data. CID leads the Driving Change Team.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In liaison with CID’s Senior Advocate the Team Leader Driving Change will lead CID’s work with the National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health (the Centre) and manage the work of the Driving Change Team including:
- Develop and undertake effective high level systemic advocacy to improve the health outcomes of people with intellectual disability on behalf of the National Centre and in liaison with other National Centre personnel.
- Work closely with Consortium members and partners and across stakeholders to achieve improved health outcomes for Australians living with intellectual disability, including building the profile of the National Centre.
- Manage Driving Change Team’s work to ensure CID meets all contractual obligations under the consortium agreement, and to the Centre and UNSW.
- Lead performance of CID’s obligations under the consortium agreement and activity work plan including development and implementation of National Centre strategies for systemic advocacy, identification of existing sector resources, inclusive practices and input to policy and legislative initiatives around Australia.
- Participate in periodic budget setting and activity work plan setting.
- Supervise other staff at CID who are carrying out National Centre work.
- This role requires some travel within Australia on occasion and with notice.
ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA – SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrated commitment to the human rights of people with disability and the principles of participation and inclusion.
- Graduate degree qualifications in related field or equivalent significant experience.
- High level systemic advocacy skills or aptitude including the ability to develop effective relationships with stakeholders and senior and influential decision makers.
- Significant experience leading and managing effective teams.

- High level interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills and capacity to problem solve.
- Strong aptitude for communication with people who have intellectual disability.
- Ability to achieve results and operate effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent computer literacy including in Microsoft Office suite.
