  • Terms of Employment: Full time/Part time negotiable; approximately 67.5 hours/fortnight.
  • Flexible arrangement negotiable.
  • Award Classification: Social and Community Services Employee Level 5-6 dependent on skills and experience
  • Salary: $92,299 p.a. pro rata plus 11% superannuation. Generous salary packaging available
  • Leave Entitlements: 5 weeks annual leave, Christmas close down period plus 17.5% leave loading

The Coalition is a strong voice for member organisations and a reference point for governments on all issues relating to the provision of mental health services.

Background to the position

The Northern Territory Mental Health Coalition is looking to strengthen member and stakeholder engagement and supports to achieve the recently developed Strategy Plan 2024-2029. This position will lead the coordination of activities to develop the mental health workforce in the Northern Territory through collaboration, consultation and partnerships. The Northern Territory Mental Health Coalition values the ability to work creatively and independently, and the ability to be part of a small team that treats others fairly, inclusively and with respect.

Statement of duties

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support and develop a vibrant, responsive and innovative community mental health sector by:

  • Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and the team to forward all aims of The Coalition strategic plan.
  • Develop and sustain strong and productive working relationships with members and stakeholders.
  • Drive organisational reliability as a ‘go-to’ information exchange and transference hub in relation to best practice, quality frameworks, implementation, and high quality, NT specific mental health and wellbeing tools and resources.
  • In partnership with members and stakeholders, identify priority workforce development needs and implement initiatives and capacity building activities to address them.
  • Understand and support the priorities of the Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance NT and Aboriginal Peak Organisations NT in relation to the advancement of social and emotional wellbeing for First Nations people.
  • Collaborate with NT Lived Experience representative bodies and workforce initiatives to prioritise Lived Experience frameworks and implement quality improvements in the NT community mental health sector.
  • Prime responsibility for mental health networks and communities of practice including participant engagement, speaker recruitment, meeting facilitation and logistics.
  • Active participation in sector briefings in partnership with the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Events management, administration, liaison and support for all aspects of NT Mental Health Week in Darwin and Alice Springs.
  • Actively contribute to anti-stigma campaigns, advocacy, and messaging.

Position attributes

  1. Relevant qualification in social work, public policy, social science, health science, community development or equivalent experience in a related discipline.
  2. Strong interpersonal, engagement and relationship building skills with a proven ability to foster and maintain collaborative relationships with a wide range of internal and external partners and stakeholders in an environment requiring cultural sensitivity.
  3. Demonstrated experience delivering programs in mental health, community services, disability or a related discipline.
  4. Experience in leadership roles and ability to represent the organisation at the highest levels when required.
  5. Knowledge (or ability to quickly acquire knowledge) of the NT mental health sector, factors impacting the sector and the ability to identify opportunities for collaboration and development.
  6. Experience and a solutions-focused approach to delivering project outcomes in program management, operational planning and workforce development contexts.
  7. Ability to present to a range of stakeholders and groups; and facilitate purposeful discussions and consultation.
