The Kimberley – Like Nowhere Else Alliance and Partnership for the Outback are looking for a person who is passionate about WA's nature and protecting our unique landscapes, culture, plants and animals and one of Australia's most important, free-flowing rivers – the Martuwarra Fitzroy River.

WHAT YOU’D BE WORKING ON  

The Community Campaigner will work to raise awareness, build public support, and engage with communities and individuals to increase political support with key decision makers to protect WA's nature, including the Kimberley's Martuwarra Fitzroy River. 

This contract position will require a mix of work in our West Perth office – as well as weekend work in the community at stalls, events and other on-ground activities.  The role will report to the WA Campaign Coordinator and will work closely with the Communications Officer to help deliver key components of the campaign strategy. 

 SCOPE OF WORK:

  1. Engage with the community to demonstrate support for protection of The Kimberley and WA's nature through actions such as signing postcard petitions, writing letters, and promoting and attending community events. 
  2. Lead on booking, setting-up, running and pack-up of information stalls at festivals, markets and other events to a professional standard.  
  3. Assist with organising community events in target areas to engage supporters and promote the Kimberley and WA nature.
  4. Support, recruit and motivate volunteers who assist at information stalls, community events and office tasks. 
  5. Ensure clear communication with the team regarding event success, stalls materials, new event opportunities, volunteer support and any enquiries that require follow-up. 
  6. Assist with data management and supporter engagement across the Kimberley and WA nature digital communication platforms including Nationbuilder, email and Facebook.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with members of the public and motivate support. 
  • Self motivated and ability to set goals and work to agreed targets. 
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Creative and innovative thinker. 
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and independently. 
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills. 
  • Passionate about conserving our natural and cultural environment. 
  • Able to lead and manage a small team of volunteers. 

DESIRABLE SKILLS 

  • Experience in direct community engagement. 
  • Lived experience or experience working with First Nations people.  
  • Experience with social media. 
  • Experience writing EDMs. 
  • Experience organising events. 

TERMS 

  • This is a contract position and the fee scale per annum ranges from $70,000 - $75,000 FTE depending on skills and experience, plus 11.5% superannuation.
  • The initial contract runs through to April 2025 with possible extension, dependent upon performance, funding and campaign requirements.
  • It is expected that the brief will require between 3 to 4 days per week with 2 days in the office and 1-2 days weekend work in the community. 
  • The successful applicant will need a valid driver’s licence and will require a current Australian Business Number. 
  • This position may require travel within WA and interstate. 

LOCATION 

  • The role is based in Perth with a central office located in West Perth. 

The role is part of a hybrid working model, with the ability to work from home on agreed days.
