About Northern Territory PHN

The Health Network Northern Territory Limited (the Company), operating as Northern Territory PHN (NT PHN), operates the Northern Territory’s Primary Health Network, and is also the Northern Territory’s Rural Workforce Agency. NT PHN is a not-for-profit organisation funded by the Australian Government to work closely with the primary health sector to develop better coordination, support the health workforce and introduce new health programs and services.

Position available: Non-Executive Director

Appointment date: 25 November 2024

Role overview: As a non-executive Director on our Board, you will help guide and shape strategies to improve health outcomes for people living in the Northern Territory, with a strong focus on improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the NT.

Board engagement expectations:

  • The Board meets approximately 6 times per year, with additional Board Sub-Committee meetings (minimum 4 times annually for each Committee).
  • Term of appointment is for 3 years, with opportunity for reappointment.
  • Directors are remunerated according to the Directors’ Remuneration Policy.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience and qualifications: Background in primary health care, allied health, Aboriginal health or law/health justice.
  • Professional skills: While no single director needs to have all the below skills, together, we aim to cover a wide range of expertise:
  • Team player: Ability to work well in a team and actively contribute to the Board and NT PHN.
  • Strategy and Corporate Governance (especially in non-profits)
  • Financial and Risk Management
  • Primary Health, Mental Health and General Practice
  • Primary Health Workforce
  • Aboriginal Community Control and Health Care

Desired skills

  • Previous director experience and/or training
  • Strategic thinking: Ability to identify and assess opportunities and threats.
  • Risk management: Ability to identify key risks across various areas.
  • Corporate governance knowledge: Understanding best practices in governance.

At least two of the positions are reserved for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander candidate.
