We have a fantastic opportunity for a talented individual who is passionate about developing and delivering a great range of projects, including events, and workshops to make her/his mark for a vibrant national charity working with the marine/seafood community.
We are a national, marine environmental not for profit, recognised and supported as the marine Natural Resource Management organisation by the Australian Government. Since our establishment in 1989 OceanWatch has made great strides to improve the environmental practice of those who work on water. Our work helps protect threatened marine species, assist fishers reduce their by-catch, and introduce sustainable technologies and restore important marine habitats.
We are looking for a creative Project Officer to work on our education and events activities.
The Officer would be responsible for developing and delivering OceanWatch Australia projects on the east coast.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the team manage enquiries from members, stakeholders and community with regards to events and projects.
- Assist with the preparation and distribution of project related written and graphic communications that require a high level of research, liaison, writing skills and collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- This position reports to the CEO.
Selection Criteria
Essential qualifications and experience criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field with at least 1 year’ experience working in project management within the natural resource management/environment/sustainability sector or a combination of relevant qualifications and experience.
- High-level communication skills, ability to converse with community groups, industry and key stakeholders.
- High level of self-confidence, motivation, initiative and demonstrated ability to manage your workload and perform complex tasks with minimal supervision.
- Current Australian drivers’ licence and willingness to travel.
- A willingness to work occasionally outside of normal office hours to represent OceanWatch Australia as required.
- Well-developed written and presentation skills, ability to organise events such as workshops and field days with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple priorities within tight deadlines.
- Familiarity and appreciation for marine environmental issues and/or Australian seafood.
Desirable qualifications and experience criteria:
- Experience of working in community environmental education projects is highly regarded.
- Experience of successful grant writing, and delivery of grant outcomes.
- Experience of working for the not-for-profit sector.

- Ability to show initiative, be adaptable, plan and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently where required and accept responsibility for work tasks.
- Ability to achieve both individual and team objectives.
Salary/Terms
- $75k p/a (pro rata) ex super, 3 days per week – 6 month contract.
