About the role

Odyssey House NSW is seeking a highly capable Communications Manager looking for a job with purpose to join our team. Working collaboratively with the Executive Director Communications and Fundraising, the role oversees the organisation’s communication strategies to ensure a clear, concise and cohesive message through all of Odyssey House NSW’s communications. This includes digital and print media, campaigns, fundraising, general branding, product development, website and internal communications.

This role requires strong communication and writing skills, attention to detail, innovative thinking and leadership capacity. Experience in the not-for-profit sector - particularly donor engagement - is highly desirable. We are seeking a Communications Manager who is confident with a professional, corporate writing style that is also warm, authentic and inspirational.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of long-term communications plans to support the organisation’s key strategic priorities.
  • Write clear, concise and strategically responsive messaging across Odyssey’s communication channels.
  • Build positive relationships with stakeholders, including staff, donors and external partners.

Key activities

  • Develop written content for Odyssey’s key channels, including internal and external newsletters, publications, media releases, key messages, social media, website and the annual report.
  • Gather and tell stories and develop valuable resources to enhance Odyssey House’s profile.
  • Copywriting for supporter engagement activity, including edms, fundraising and event communications.
  • Produce marketing materials and content that promotes the brand and program areas.
  • Create strategies to increase engagement across digital and social channels.
  • Take the lead for communications while working collaboratively within the wider team and organisation.

What you will bring to the team

  • Three to five years’ experience in a similar communication’s role.
  • Great writing skills, including producing large volumes of copy to short deadlines.
  • An instinct for a good story and willingness to seek out interviews and story opportunities within the organisation to share with a wider audience.
  • Experience developing and executing communications and media plans.
  • A willingness to work collaboratively in a small team
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • An ability to set goals and work productively with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional time management skills, managing multiple and competing priorities.
  • An ability to influence positive outcomes with effective communication capable in conveying complex matters across a range of stakeholders.
  • Not-for-profit experience would be desirable, but not essential.
  • Bachelor degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field or equivalent experience.
