The position is offered as a full time, maximum term contract to 30 June 2024. Part time and flexible working hours will be considered for the right applicant. The position is based at Richmond, with regular travel to other locations.
Odyssey House Victoria works with families experiencing domestic and family violence, substance misuse and mental health issues underpinned by intergenerational trauma and entrenched poverty. The link between sexual abuse and problematic substance use is commonly seen in alcohol and other drug treatment services.
Westpac Banking Corporation established the Westpac Scale Grant as part of the Safer Children, Safer Communities work program. Odyssey House Victoria has been awarded a grant to help scale the existing ‘Kids in Focus’ (KIF) program to better address intergenerational child sexual abuse in highly vulnerable families where there is parental alcohol and other drug use.” KIF is an outreach parenting support and case management program working with families where one or more parents has problematic alcohol and other drug use. The key purpose is to increase parenting capacity, life skills and social connection, and decrease risk to children and their families.
The funding over the next three years will allow Odyssey House Victoria’s existing ‘Kids in Focus’ program to better address intergenerational child sexual abuse in highly vulnerable families where there is parental alcohol and other drug use. This position provides secondary consultation and expert advice on dealing and responding to child sexual abuse.
The position leads the team of specialist AOD family support clinicians to work with, recognise, respond to and preventing the risk of child sexual abuse alongside the range of child focused activities and home-based support provided. The position also provides support to the Manager, Child & Family Services including staff supervision, fundraising, networking, program development and evaluation and carries a caseload of families to whom it provides practical and emotional goal-focused support (including home-based support).
The key purpose of the position is to achieve improved responsiveness from within the alcohol and other drug sector and across other service sectors to the needs of children and their families with a specific lens of recognising and responding to the risks of child sexual abuse.
