About Hope Centre:

The Hope Centre is one of three residential rehabilitation facilities operated by Odyssey House Victoria. Using a therapeutic community model, the program offers a holistic treatment experience for those seeking help for problematic drug or alcohol use. To enhance individual motivation for change, the Therapeutic Community combines meaningful work and recreational activities, with therapeutic group work and skills development, in a physically and psychologically safe environment.

About this opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced Enrolled Nurse to support our new residential withdrawal service through the application of related nursing interventions to clients within our Therapeutic Community at Hope Centre!

You will work closely with the Withdrawal Nurse (RN) and be responsible for supporting our residents through the withdrawal process.

Duties include but are not limited to…

  • Support the resident through the withdrawal process in a non-medical environment:
  • Assessing, triaging and responding to resident medical needs
  • In collaboration with the Registered Nurse administering medication as prescribed;
  • Maintaining records and ensuring resident confidentiality;
  • Participating in clinical team meetings and communicating/liaising between clinical and medical staff regarding resident medical issues, including:
    • Pharmacotherapy – script dates, changes, scales etc.;
    • Residents on key medications, e.g. anti-psychotic, anti-depressant, strong pain management, to ensure informed and coordinated care.
  • Administration, including writing up reports as developed;
  • Assisting in the appropriate referral and conjoint treatment of clients with specific or specialist needs by liaising with other treatment services.
  • Operating within the Enrolled Nurse scope of practice.
  • Contributing to staff meetings and discussions regarding resident health care needs.

  • Supported residents through withdrawal process.
  • Worked in collaboration with staff, senior residents and external services to support withdrawal plan.
  • Participated in recreational activities, meals and meetings with staff and residents.

Key Selection Criteria:

We are looking for an individual who can support our new withdrawal service by applying a high standard of nursing assessment, treatment and care to our residents.

To be successful in this role, you must have…

  • Registration (current) with APHRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) as an Enrolled Nurse.
  • Qualifications in Medication Endorsement.
  • Well-developed nursing skills, including comprehensive assessment, crisis intervention, problem-solving, conflict resolution, decision-making, goal setting, case planning, development, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience with people withdrawing from drug and alcohol use
  • Ability to effectively liaise and communicate with a wide variety of agencies and individuals at many levels.
