Located in the small coastal community of Wadeye, the Kardu Darrikardu Numida Hostel is a 24/7 operating service. Living in Wadeye truly gives you the opportunity to experience and understand the benefit and challenges of living and working in remote Australia. Working alongside locally employed staff, you can learn from the local Aboriginal people. All while being supported by a small team, where your ideas and input can have genuine impact on the service and community.
The Youth Worker role is to supervise the physical, emotional and spiritual development of the students under their care, providing a link between the boarding school and the day school, maintaining contact with the parents and assisting in the planning and coordinating of various outside of school activities that promote wellbeing and safety.

- High level interpersonal skills and cultural intelligence
- Proven ability to work as part of a team
- Support best practice and trauma informed care at the service
- Support the Hostel Manager to provide mentoring and guidance to the team
- Build the self-esteem and self-confidence of young people
- Support school attendance
- Develop young people’s ability to manage personal and social relationships
- Create learning opportunities and to develop new skills for young people
- Encourage positive group atmospheres
- Build the capacity of young people to consider risk, make reasoned decisions and take control
- Develop a ‘world view’ which widens horizons and invites social commitment
Requirements
- Be eligible to work in Australia and willing to move to Wadeye, NT
- Min. 5 years' experience in similar role
- A clear NT Working with Children Check
- National Police Clearance
- Northern Land Council permit
- First Aid & CPR certificates
- A valid driver’s licence
