POSITION OVERVIEW
This role will deliver community based psychosocial intervention services to LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy young people aged 12 to 24 seeking support for moderate to severe problematic alcohol and other drug use, with a focus on young Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, their families and communities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide services and support to LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy young people aged 12 to 24.
- Delivery of evidenced-based alcohol and other drug psychosocial interventions to reduce problematic AOD use and/or harms, and improve health and wellbeing.
- Provide culturally safe services and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQAP+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy young people, their families and communities.
- Develop collaborative goal-oriented case management plans for young people based on their strengths, resilience and protective factors.
- Develop and deliver psychosocial groups that facilitate access to information, support, and connection to peers and their community.
- Conduct AOD screening assessments, comprehensive risk assessments, and impact measurement assessments.
- Provide flexible supports in the community that meet clients access needs, including outreach and use of interpreters.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key service providers and communities.
Required Qualifications
- Relevant qualifications in the field of Community Services or Youth Work (Diploma minimum) and/or Degree Human Services is mandatory.
- A current driver’s licence.
- A current Queensland Blue Card.
- COVID 19 vaccination certificate.
- Two relevant references directly linked to your experience working with young people.
Selection Criteria (A written response to these selection Criteria is REquired with your application)
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the experiences of LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy young people.
- Knowledge and understanding of risk and protective factors related to alcohol and other drug use by young people, generally and specifically for LGBTIQ+ young people, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identities, culture and protocols, and demonstrated ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
- Demonstrated ability to provide individual support to young people, including risk assessment, case management, care coordination and goal planning; and the ability to be flexible and adaptable to meet clients varying needs to maximise participation.
- Knowledge of evidence-based alcohol and other drug psychosocial interventions and demonstrated ability to implement prevention, intervention, and harm minimisation principles.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and deliver engaging group programs and activities to young people.
- Knowledge of relevant referral networks and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders including schools, government bodies, and community organisations.
