Ostara Australia is expanding its Board from 4 to 6 members and is seeking expressions of interest from individuals with knowledge, skills, experience and passion in one or more of the following areas:

  • Disability Employment Sector including delivery of employment service contracts on behalf of the Federal Government,
  • The National Disability Insurance Scheme,
  • Relevant Allied Health background and experience,
  • Strategic business, commercial and financial acumen,
  • Business growth and development of scalable business models to respond to contract requirements.

Founded in 2001, Ostara Australia works closely with Government, member organisations, communities, and employers to provide Government funded Disability Employment Services (DES) to Australians experiencing mental illness or disability.

Applicants from Sydney, Melbourne and ACT are encouraged.

The role(s)

As a member of the Board and in accordance with the functions set out in the Constitution you will be responsible to work effectively with the Chair and other Board Members to:

  1. Set the strategic direction of the organisation,
  2. Oversee and monitor performance (financial and non-financial) in line with the strategic direction and mission and values,
  3. Appointment and performance of the Managing Director,
  4. Ensure policies, systems and procedures are in place to manage risk and compliance obligations.

You will be required to:

  1. Exercise the responsibilities of a director in line with the Ostara Constitution, relevant legislation and Board Policy.
  2. Participate diligently and actively in Board meetings including preparation, during and after meetings (monthly online).
  3. Support the Managing Director in the discharge of his or her responsibilities.
  4. Demonstrate the values of the organisation and align with the Board Code of Conduct and relevant policies.
  5. Exercise obligations under Ostara’s work health and safety management system and relevant legislation.

Key competencies and skills

  1. Understanding of a Director’s ethical, legal, and fiduciary responsibilities.
  2. Effective communication skills to fully participate in discussion and decision-making and willingness to listen.
  3. Curiosity to ask questions and appropriately challenge fellow Board Members and Management where required.
  4. Genuine interest in the sector and the work of the organisation.
  5. Integrity and honesty.
