This organisation serves as a dedicated supporter of community media, Australia’s largest independent media sector. It allocates funding to empower over 450 community media organisations nationwide, fostering connections across the country. With more than five million Australians tuning into local, community-owned and operated radio stations each week, the organisation plays a pivotal role in strengthening this vital sector. Its mission is to ensure a thriving, impactful, and resilient future for community broadcasting.

The Role

In this senior role, you will be responsible for managing the strategic communications activities. Reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for ensuring all communications reflect the brand and values of the organisation, and are aligned with the Strategic Plan and Roadmap 2033 priorities. Working closely with the CEO, Executive Officer, Grants Support Team and Policy Team, you will provide communications leadership and strategic advice across the organisation.

Playing a key role in driving the outcomes and priorities of the Strategic Plan and Roadmap 2033, you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring communications strategy and annual plans reflect strategic priorities
  • Delivering a dynamic content strategy that highlights and promotes grant programs and impacts of activities
  • Developing and maintaining an effective network of stakeholder relationships
  • Encouraging active engagement and collaboration across the sector
  • Producing and distributing high quality, timely and accessible content for internal and external channels, including annual reporting and compliance, e-newsletters, social media presence and media releases, and key messages for the CEO and President when required
  • Managing all aspects of the website including improvements, updates and maintenance
  • Managing the Communication Coordinator

Key Selection Criteria

Your demonstrated experience in planning, implementing and managing strategic communications will ensure your success in this role. To excel in this role, you will possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications or marketing or similar
  • Experience in developing and implementing brand and content strategies
  • Well developed story telling and communication skills
  • Experience in writing for online channels
  • Experience in WordPress, CMS, Mailchimp and Canva
  • Knowledge of best practice principles of website design and usability
  • Excellent planning, organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Strong diplomacy skills and highly developed emotional intelligence, together with a mature disposition
  • Enthusiasm for community media
