We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Youth Worker to provide support to young people in the Tjuntjuntjara community in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting young individuals in making a healthy transition to adulthood and ensuring their social and emotional wellbeing through culturally appropriate engagement and participation in well-planned diversionary activities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement programs that promote positive youth development in a remote community
• Provide individual support and guidance to young people as needed in a culturally sensitive manner
• Implement and foster participation in a range of after school activities with a focus on health wellbeing, life-skills, and resilience building young people on the Spinifex Lands
• Increase community awareness and support for services relating to Social & Emotional Wellbeing, Mental Health and AOD issues.
• Provide advocacy and referral pathways for health support, counselling and treatment by appropriate primary and allied health care specialists engaged by the SHS.
• Liaise with Families and child health co-ordinator to identify action for those children of concern and the school to target those identified at higher risk.
• Maintain accurate records of interactions with young people, protecting privacy and confidentiality of young people

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Certificate IV or Diploma in Youth Work or related field
• Previous experience working with youth is in a remote community setting is preferred
• Cultural awareness training or demonstrated experience working within Indigenous communities is highly desirable.
