The Office Manager will oversee the day-to-day management of PAW Media’s head office in Yuendumu. The successful candidate will provide administrative and managerial support to the General Manager, Operations Manager and Department Coordinators and provide support to PAW casual and part-time staff as well as visiting local community members.
The successful candidate will support the Organisation with payroll duties, administration, office and staff management and logistics. The role will support the Operations Manager with meeting timelines, delivery of projects, management of the asset register, travel coordination, fleet management, logistics and diary management. The role will require working closely with the Operations Manager to ensure that all administrative needs of the organisation are being met to ensure compliance with statutory obligations under ORIC.
The Administrator will work closely with the General Manager to implement and uphold policies & procedures, and to maintain organisational direction. They will work with each Department Coordinator to ensure that PAW Media’s departments run smoothly so they are able to provide local engagement, employment, training, and support to Indigenous community members.
The applicant must be a self-starter, with the confidence to take responsibility for tasks and to work autonomously, under direction from senior management. The role requires previous managerial or administrative experience in a small to medium organisation and being confident with software such as Xero (or comparable accounting software), Microsoft Office Suite and Mac computers.
Previous work for an Aboriginal Organisation or NFP/charity in the Indigenous and/or community development sectors will be highly regarded. Experience of working, and living, in a remote Aboriginal Community would be advantageous. Media-related experience and skills using Creative Cloud are beneficial but not essential. Ability to drive a manual vehicle or 4WD is preferred.
The position requires the successful applicant to live remotely and calls for strong leadership and teamwork. Working in a culturally diverse space demands patience and understanding, whilst other challenges will require a resourceful, sociable, and adaptable person to succeed. However, for the right candidate this is a rewarding and potentially life-changing role, which may require travel through Aboriginal Lands rarely visited by outsiders.
The position offers unique opportunities for career development and will allow you to become a part of a very special community, contributing to its growth, and developing an understanding of Warlpiri peoples and other local cultures.
PAW Media and Communications is a Warlpiri owned and run Not-for-profit Organisation based in Yuendumu, Northern Territory. PAW was originally established as ‘Warlpiri Media Association’ in 1983, but now trades under the name ‘PAW Media and Communications’. The name ‘PAW’ is an acronym that reflects the Pintubi, Anmatjere and Warlpiri language groups that are serviced by the organisation. For over 35 years PAW has been creating TV, films, radio, and music, in language, according to local cultural protocols. In addition to creating local media productions and documenting local culture, PAW provides media training, digital literacy programs and employment opportunities for the people of Yuendumu and surrounding communities.
Yuendumu has a population of approx. 1000 people, predominantly Warlpiri. The community is the main service delivery centre for Warlpiri Aboriginal Lands. Among Yuendumu’s services is a health clinic, youth services, mechanical workshop, two general stores, post office, school, and police station. It is the only community in its region with a public swimming pool.
