The Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA) is recognised as the principal non-government organisation for public health in Australia which works to promote the health and well-being of everyone in Australia.  It is the preeminent voice for the public’s health in Australia.

About your opportunity

We are seeking a suitably qualified person to work full or part-time (30 - 37.5-hour week) in our National Office in Canberra, or if viable, remotely from elsewhere in Australia. The Policy and Advocacy Manager or Senior Policy Officer will be responsible for:

  • Lead and/or work closely with the existing Senior Policy and Advocacy Advisor and a Policy Officer to guide and influence the strategic direction of policy and communication activities.
  • Lead the advancement of a broad spectrum of public health policy and advocacy activities and issues for the organisation.
  • Provide leadership working with the CEO and other staff members to build relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Represent PHAA as required.
  • Work closely with the other Managers to assist in co-ordinating communication material and collaboration in the Events program.
  • Contribute to thinking and design of PHAA Conference Program.

All about you

We are looking for someone with:

  • Tertiary degree with minimum eight years’ experience in health or public policy.
  • High-level policy development skills including strategic, conceptual, analytical and creative skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work closely with others in a teamwork environment.
  • Demonstrated high level oral communication, negotiation and liaison skills, and the capacity to work effectively with diverse stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
