Njernda Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation whose purpose is to deliver community controlled, holistic services and programs which improve the physical, emotional, cultural and spiritual wellbeing of the Aboriginal Community of Echuca and surrounding areas.

About the role

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the CEO will provide strategic leadership and operational management across all facets of the organisation. The key responsibilities include fostering collaboration with service managers to develop, enhance, and deliver culturally informed programs and services that meet community needs. The CEO will also play a pivotal role in supporting the Board to fulfil its statutory and governance obligations, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and best practices.

As the public representative and advocate for Njernda, the CEO will embody the organisation's values, engaging with government agencies and funding bodies to build partnerships, secure resources, and sustain the organisation’s mission to empower the community. This role requires a leader committed to cultural integrity, innovation, and driving meaningful outcomes for mob.

About you

You will personally demonstrate, through consistent behaviour and understanding, respect for, and compliance with culturally appropriate ways of working with Aboriginal people and their communities. You will be an experienced leader with strong corporate capabilities and high-level communication skills. You will have a strong skillset in governance and have experience working closely with Boards. You will be passionate about making a difference in the life of Aboriginal communities through the delivery of quality and equitable services to Njernda’s members. Ideally, you will have experience in the social services sector and an understanding of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and business development as it relates to community.

To be successful in this role, you will be a transparent and empathetic leader who understands the vital importance of cultural safety in an organisation and a community. You will also understand the dynamics of working within a small community and how to bring the organisation and community on the journey together.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Extensive senior leadership experience and the ability to lead and develop a team, preferably in an Aboriginal community controlled organisation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of health issues impacting upon the health status of Aboriginal communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning and achievement of strategic objectives.
  • Proven experience in ensuring an effective management system, a policy, procedure and risk framework and a viable financial system for an organisation.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively and positively with a wide variety of external stakeholders, community members and internal staff.
