Youth Development Worker - Port Kembla

Port Kembla Youth Project
  • 8 hours per week - SCHCADS Award
  • (Grade2- 3, depending on qualifications)

To work with young people between the ages of 12-24 years by maintaining existing programs co-ordinate, implement and deliver new programs for the area. Must be available Monday and Thursday. Probationary period applies.

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or currently studying towards.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting young people
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing, evaluating and coordinating programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in submission writing, administration and computer literacy.
  • Understanding and ability to use digital platforms, social media in a professional setting.
  • Familiarity with community management practices.
  • First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain within three months).
  • Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Working with Children Check.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of other services relevant to the position.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to cultural diversity and social justice.

I’m a Student, can I still Apply?

Yes. Port Kembla Youth Project requires the youth development worker to have tertiary qualifications (or be studying towards) in related fields. The successful applicant must be available Mondays and Thursdays between the hours of 11am - 4pm.

What Qualifications must I have?

The Youth Development Worker role requires a person who has a base knowledge in youth development work and or service delivery. Typical qualifications may include a Certificate IV or Diploma in Youth Work or Community Services, a degree in Psychology, Teaching or Social Sciences. It is okay to still be studying in these qualifications, however you must supply a copy of your transcript if requested.

Do I need Experience as a Youth Development Worker?

Not necessary. While youth work experience is highly regarded, the Port Kembla Youth Project is seeking applicants with the following qualities: passionate about helping young people, quick learner, ability to work independently, strong organisational and communication skills, highly professional with strong relationship building skills and skills in conflict resolution. If you don’t have experience in youth development work but can demonstrate these qualities, we welcome you to apply.

What is the Pay Rate?

The pay rate for this position depends on the successful applicant’s level of experience and qualifications under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award (start from Grade 2- 3). Please visit fairwork.gov.au to learn more about this award.
