Platform Youth Services is a growing not-for-profit based youth homelessness service, that has provided holistic services to vulnerable young people who are at risk of homelessness or who are experiencing homelessness in the Nepean, Blue Mountains, and Hawkesbury areas for over 40 yrs.

About the role

The Premiers Youth Initiative is a Transitional Program for young people 17-21 years exiting Out of Home Care with a focus on education, employment, and community engagement. The Program utilises properties managed through Wentworth Community Housing, whilst providing a mentoring model through the engagement of Personal Advisors provided through our Mission Australia partnership.

The Transitional Housing Workers actively engage with young people and help them build individual capacity while empowering them to lead enriched and meaningful lives. You will work with young people in the program to build a positive case management relationship working towards independent living, ensuring that the most appropriate and effective services and support are provided to young people who are at risk of homelessness or who are experiencing homelessness and where appropriate, their families as identified in the Premiers Youth Initiative Program.

We are looking for experienced, motivated, and dedicated workers to join our dynamic team who can bring:

  • Consultative and collaborative working attitude
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to engage, relate and communicate with others, including young people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Great professional and team skills to ensure consistency, and clients are provided with services appropriate to their current and changing needs.

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum 12 months experience working with young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
  • Demonstrated experience working in Out of Home Care systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of working in transitional housing programs
  • Demonstrated understanding of client-centric and trauma informed practice
  • Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable young people with high and complex needs.
  • Ability to consider and adjust to the needs of participants, families, carers, and the wider community.
  • Ability to think innovatively and creatively to develop tailored client solutions.
  • Excellent communication, collaborative, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a partnership model of service delivery.
  • Ability to use online case management systems and computer proficiency.

Qualifications, Checks and References

  • Completed Diploma in Youth Work, Community Services or Welfare qualifications.
  • Evidence of Australian Citizenship or Permanent residency
  • Unrestricted Current `C` class Driver’s Licence as you may be required to work across any of Platform’s sites in the Nepean, Blue Mountains, and Hawkesbury areas.
  • A valid National Police Clearance, Working with Children Check, First Aid Certificate and CPR Certification
  • Two referees, including current or most recent manager.
