Located on the island of Efate, Vanuatu, Port Vila International School (PVIS) is a not-for-profit Charitable Association offering co-educational Early Education to Year 12. With a student population of approximately 420, including 50% ni-Vanuatu students, we provide high-quality education aligned with the Australian curriculum, the SACE (South Australian Certificate of Education), and the Early Years Learning Framework.
PVIS is the only institution in Vanuatu offering an internationally recognised school leavers certificate, providing a crucial pathway to tertiary education. Our mission is to support Vanuatu’s national vision of becoming stable, sustainable, and prosperous by delivering education that underpins this development. We are dedicated to addressing the unique challenges of education in the South Pacific and making a meaningful impact through our commitment to excellence.
We are seeking dedicated Mathematics and Science teachers to join our team at PVIS. You will be responsible for teaching students from Year 7 to 12, with a particular need for Physics and Chemistry teachers. PVIS delivers the SACE international curriculum for Years 10-12 and follows the Australian Curriculum for Years 7-10. We are a Maths Pathway school from Year 5 to Year 10.
As a small, single-stream secondary school, we need skilled educators to support our students in a diverse and unique Pacific context. Beyond teaching the subjects, your role will involve engaging with a variety of learners and building meaningful relationships. Many of our students will be the first in their families to reach this level of education, making your contributions both impactful and rewarding.
To thrive in this role at PVIS, you should be a qualified teacher with relevant credentials and a strong background in differentiated learning to support a diverse range of abilities. We are looking for someone who is resourceful, energetic, and capable of working independently while also thriving in a team environment.
A commitment to community and social engagement is essential, as is being culturally aware and adaptable to a small community setting. Ideal candidates will inspire and guide students, fostering a love of learning and building their confidence, while also committing to student wellbeing as a key to achievement.
This role is particularly suited for teachers with a desire to work in development or who have a strong social conscience. You should be open-minded, passionate about teaching, and excited to embrace the unique and rewarding experience of living in a country with a different way of life. If you are eager to make a meaningful impact in this supportive and dynamic environment, we encourage you to apply!
As part of the PVIS employment package, internationally recruited teachers receive a direct flight to Port Vila from Australia or New Zealand at the start of the contract, with a return flight at the end.
A one-month accommodation is provided, along with an excess luggage allowance. Salary packages includes salary, accommodation allowance, and a Vanuatu National Provident Fund (VNPF) employer contribution of 4% of salary, with an employee co-contribution of 4% deducted from salary, which can be withdrawn at the end of the contract.
At the end of a two-year contract, a gratuity equivalent to one month’s salary per year of employment is provided. There is no income tax in Vanuatu.
PVIS handles visa and work permit applications for staff and their families, and staff members whose children attend PVIS benefit from a 50% discount on tuition fees (or 75% if both parents work at the school).
Although salaries may not be competitive with those in Australia or New Zealand, the unique and enriching experience of living in one of the most beautiful places in the world more than compensates for this. This role is ideal for someone financially prepared to embrace this opportunity.
