The Port Phillip Community Group (PPCG) is committed to a community that fosters inclusion, where people feel valued and can participate in community life. This means delivering services in partnerships that enable clients to achieve sustainable change and growth in areas such as health and wellbeing, financial management, social connections and community inclusion. 

Operating from three main sites in St Kilda East and Port Melbourne, over forty volunteers and staff work in partnership with the local organisations to deliver positive outcomes for all members of the community.   

PPCG provides social advocacy regarding inequity, social exclusion and poverty to reduce disadvantage by leading and participating in local issue-based advocacy campaigns and activities.

About the role

The Alma Road Community House (ARCH) is a community hub where people meet to pursue leisure and learning opportunities. The primary focus of the house is to provide programs and services to enhance well-being, community involvement and connectedness, for those in the local St Kilda East community.  

The community House provides fee for service activities, room hire and Adult Community Further Education (ACFE) courses. 

The Neighbourhood House and Education Coordinator plays a key role in the development, delivery, evaluation and continuous improvement of training courses and programs at PPCG, and supports tutoring staff in working with individuals and communities to ensure positive learning outcomes for those within the community who are most marginalised and vulnerable.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA 

Mandatory

  • A tertiary qualification and/or equivalent experience in education, community services, social work, community development and/or at least three years’ experience in coordinating activities of a Neighbourhood House
  • Understanding of Adult Community Further Education (ACFE) compliance requirements and Pre- Accredited Quality Framework and Learn Local Sector
  • Demonstrated ability to generate growth through grants, sponsorships, programming, special events and donations
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills including the ability to negotiate and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders
  • Understanding of the requirements of government funding and reporting to funding bodies
  • Submission writing and program development skills and experience. 
  • Computer literacy in MS Office and internet-based applications.
  • At least two years people management experience.
  • Driver's license

Desirable 

  • High level administrative, organisational, and negotiation skills.
  • The ability to identify community needs and to plan, develop, monitor, and evaluate high quality programs to meet those needs.
  • Experience in marketing, promotion, media relations and social media.
