Team Lead - Senior Solicitor / Student Law Clinic Supervisor

We are looking for a solicitor with a passion for advocacy, social justice and human rights.

You will have 5 years PAE in relevant areas of practice and will work with people from all walks of life, supervising students in the Murdoch University Student Law Clinic in Rockingham. Experience in or willingness to develop a practice in family law and family and domestic violence will be highly regarded.

You will lead a small team of like-minded individuals providing legal advice, advocacy, and representation. You will also have the opportunity to get out into the community to raise awareness of common legal issues and the barriers our clients face every day. There will also be opportunities to influence law and policy through your work.

Supervision training for the successful candidate will be provided in Semester 2 2024.

About SCALES

SCALES Community Legal Centre is a not for profit incorporated association based in Rockingham providing a range of free legal services to the south coastal metropolitan region of Kwinana and Rockingham.

SCALES partners with the Murdoch University School of Law and Criminology to provide placements in clinical legal education units at SCALES. Law students work under the close supervision of the solicitors in the provision of legal services in the areas of criminal, family and civil law.

While the work can be challenging, SCALES has an Employee Assistance Policy and a Staff Wellbeing Strategy.

About you

You must understand and be committed to the principles of holistic, trauma informed and culturally safe legal practice; have strong emotional resilience and excellent interpersonal skills. We are also interested in people who may have gained experience through volunteer work or student placements at organisations such as community legal services or legal aid commissions.

You will have experience in providing high quality legal advice, casework and representation services in relevant areas of law, family law and/or FDSV will be highly regarded. You will have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with First Nations women and women from Cultural and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds.
