Psychology for a Safe Climate

ABOUT Psychology for a safe climate (PSC)

Founded in 2010, Psychology for a Safe Climate Inc. (PSC) is a not-for-profit organisation and health promotion charity that seeks to foster emotional engagement with climate change. The impetus for establishing PSC arose in response to the prevalence of denial of climate change in the community, and a wish to contribute psychological understanding of why this was so.

PSC’s purpose is to contribute psychological understanding and support within the community to assist people to face the difficult climate reality. We aim to build people’s capacity to respond constructively to climate change by promoting and strengthening mental health and wellbeing.

PSC is a Melbourne-based incorporated association that is governed by a voluntary Board.

Position overview

This Communications Coordinator role will be responsible for the development and implementation of PSC communications across our social media. We are looking for someone who can optimise our platforms based on the needs of our work, and the reality that we are a small charity with limited communications resources. The Communications Coordinator will contribute to the implementation of PSC’s communication needs and strategies through digital content development, design, and social media engagement.

You would work with our team of subject matter experts to raise awareness of climate psychology, what we do at PSC, and promote our various programs and offerings, including our Beyond Burnout Initiative and Climate Cafe Program. Here, we strive to engage social media to inspire our audience to build cultures of care and prioritise mental health and emotional wellbeing in responding to climate crisis; inform them about ways to support their own and others mental health and wellbeing in the climate crisis; and invite them to our programs (e.g. climate cafes) and community (membership).

It is ideal for a creative, passionate, skilled and organised individual who understands the value of communication for impact around the climate crisis and our mental health and wellbeing.

This is a 7 month role, but depending on funding and performance, there is potential for extension.

A full position description is attached, and details the specific responsibilities in this role.
