About the Organisation

The Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Education Committee Aboriginal Corporation (PYEC) is an Anangu-run organisation that supports education of Anangu in the APY Lands. PYEC oversees education across the APY Lands and runs a number of projects to support the education and advancement of Anangu. PYEC has a close relationship with the South Australian Department for Education.

The APY Lands cover an area in excess of 100,000 square kilometres in northern South Australia and are extremely remote, with the nearest major town being five to six hours away in Alice Springs. The resident population is estimated to be 2,500 people spread across a number of communities and homelands. Predominant languages spoken are Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara, as well as varying levels of English.

About the Role

The Administrative Officer is a key role responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and management of administrative functions, financial support, executive assistance, asset management, and contracts administration within PYEC. This position demands a high level of organisational skills and attention to detail to handle a variety of tasks, including overseeing daily administrative activities, supporting financial processes such as budgeting and expense tracking, and providing executive support to senior management. Additionally, the Administrative Officer manages organisational assets, ensuring proper maintenance and utilisation, and administers contracts, ensuring compliance and timely renewals. This role is pivotal in maintaining smooth office operations, supporting strategic objectives, and enhancing overall organisational effectiveness.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Relevant certificate qualification in Business, Administration, or Finance and/or previous experience in a similar role with an equivalent level of expertise
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work and liaise with First Nations people and organisations.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.
  • Knowledge of financial processes and principles, including budgeting, expense tracking, and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with contract administration and procurement processes.
  • Demonstrated experience working with computers and software programs including as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

  • Ability to travel in the APY Lands, as required
  • South Australian DHS Working with Children Check
  • Ability to satisfy a National Criminal History Check

Desirable:

  • Experience with Employment Hero, Approval Max, Dext, Xero and Google Suite
