Since its formation in 1984, QC has been dedicated to delivering peer-led, community-based health services and health promotion initiatives, benefiting from funding from Local, State, and Commonwealth Governments, as well as the invaluable support of volunteers, donors, and broader community members.
2Spirits, since 1996, has been committed to cultivating pathways that foster partnership with agencies and community organisations, with a focus on the health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy people.
Together, QC and 2Spirits work to create safe, culturally appropriate, and accessible environments, free from discrimination and stigma, where individuals can make informed health, wellbeing, and lifestyle choices. This partnership is responsive to critical issues such as health, wellbeing, HIV/AIDS, people living with HIV (PLHIV), alcohol and other drugs, as well as youth and ageing within our LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy communities.

About the Opportunity/Role(s):
The Queensland Council for LGBTI Health (QC) and the 2Spirits Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Queensland LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy Health and Wellbeing are committed to advancing the health and well-being of our communities across Queensland. With a partnership that spans nearly three decades, these two organisations have come together to lead Gayawur Rainbow, a groundbreaking project designed to provide affirming care that prioritises the needs of our communities.
Through a shared focus on cultural safety, peer-led services, and social determinants of health, QC and 2Spirits have united their expertise to establish statewide support services under the Gayawur Rainbow initiative. This partnership not only builds on years of collaborative experience but also lays the foundation for a health model informed by First Nations knowledge systems, ensuring culturally inclusive and holistic care across both urban and regional areas in Queensland.
Together, QC and 2Spirits are creating a network of support that includes five physical service sites and a virtual hub, facilitating access to essential services, warm referral pathways, and peer-led programs tailored to the unique experiences of LGBTIQA+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy individuals.

To perform this role, it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person and a member of LGBTIQA+ Communities. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.

Key Responsibilities:
Vision and Values Integration:
- Embed Vision and Values: Ensure that the core vision and values of QC and 2Spirits are consistently integrated into all cross-program activities led by 2Spirits and QC. Facilitate alignment with the program’s mission, focusing on person-centred care, self-determination, and First Nations cultural leadership.
- Cross-Program Coordination: Promote cohesive work practices between 2Spirits and QC, ensuring that all program components are aligned with the overarching goals and values of Gayawur Rainbow.
Visibility and Voice:
- Create Safety: Develop and maintain a safe and supportive environment for team members, where their voices are heard, and their contributions are valued. Implement practices that promote psychological safety and ensure that all team members feel secure in expressing their ideas and concerns.
- Advocate for Team Needs: Act as a liaison between the team and senior management, ensuring that team needs are communicated effectively and addressed in a timely manner.
Connection and Belonging:
- Foster Team Unity: Promote a sense of connection and belonging among team members, creating opportunities for collaboration, mutual support, and shared learning.
- Build Relationships: Facilitate team-building activities and support initiatives that strengthen interpersonal relationships and enhance team cohesion.
Skilled and Adaptive Workforce:
- Capacity Building: Utilise a capacity-building approach to enhance the skills and effectiveness of team members. Focus on task enabling through various strategies:
- Teaching: Provide educational opportunities and training to build team members' skills and knowledge.
- Helping: Offer practical assistance and support to team members in their roles and responsibilities.
- Nurturing: Foster professional growth and development through mentorship and supportive feedback.
- Advocating: Champion the needs and professional interests of team members, ensuring they have the resources and support necessary to succeed.
- Coaching: Offer guidance and coaching to help team members navigate challenges and achieve their goals.
- Accommodating: Adapt approaches and support to meet individual needs and ensure that all team members can perform their roles effectively.
Program and Team Support:
- Monitor and Evaluate: Regularly assess the effectiveness of team practices and make recommendations for improvements. Ensure that the team’s work aligns with the program’s objectives and values.
- Develop Resources: Create and manage resources that support team development, including training materials, guidelines, and best practices.
Key Selection Criteria:
Essential:
- Leadership Experience:
- Proven experience in a leadership role, particularly in coordinating cross-program activities and embedding organisational vision and values.
- Commitment to Safety and Inclusion:
- Demonstrated ability to create a safe, inclusive work environment where team members feel valued and supported.
- Team Building and Cohesion:
- Experience in fostering team connection, belonging, and unity, with a focus on building strong, collaborative relationships
- Capacity Building Expertise:
- Strong background in capacity building, including teaching, coaching, and supporting the professional development of team members.
- Cultural Competence:
- Knowledge of First Nations cultural practices and experience working with diverse communities, including LGBTIQA+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy individuals.
- Organisational Skills:
- Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple initiatives and support team needs effectively.
Desirable:
- Experience in Health or Social Services:
- Experience working in the health or social services sector, particularly within programs focused on holistic well-being or community support.
- Knowledge of Queensland Systems:
- Familiarity with the social and health service landscape in Queensland, including resources and support available to LGBTIQA+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy and First Nations communities..
- Experience with Peer LLE Workforce Development implementation and/or understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Lived Experience-led Peer Workforce Guide
Working Environment:
- Multi-Site Engagement: Travel to physical sites across Queensland and coordinate with the virtual hub.
- Collaborative Culture: Work closely with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team across QC and 2Spirits.
