ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Pathways Capacity Building Advocate is responsible for implementing activities that build the capacity of independent disability advocates and the Queensland Independent Disability Advocacy Network (QIDAN). The work will involve researching, analysing, consulting and evaluating systems and processes to identify areas of improvement, and proposing and implementing practical solutions that will improve the sustainability and resources of the sector. You will also collaborate with stakeholders in the Queensland Independent Disability Advocacy Network (QIDAN) and decision-makers to influence policy development and implementation, in line with QIDAN’s values, goals and priorities.

The position is part time or full time on a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2025, commencing as soon as possible. The role falls under the Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Industry Award 2010 (SCHDS Award) and will be paid at Level 5.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in QIDAN and provide administrative support for the coordination of the network and community of practice including online meetings, in-person meetings and conferences.
  • Undertake responsibility for planning, co-ordination, implementation and administration of a sector capacity building plan, in line with QAI & QIDAN’s priorities, budget and capacity to do the work.
  • Liaise with members of QIDAN to update, develop and implement resources for the sector such as a data manual, unmet demand survey, outcomes measurement survey, practice standards and best practice models.
  • Collaborate with Pathways Information and Referrals Services and QIDAN Systems advocates on projects to support the operation of Pathways and QIDAN, including the QIDAN Advocates Community of Practice.
  • Collect, analyse and present data provided through QIDAN and QAI programs, monitoring achievements against targets and areas of systemic reform.
  • Keep informed of current government and community attitudes and policies and their effects on the lives of people with disability.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • Strong commitment to human rights, social justice and diversity.
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking with the ability to analyse complex situations and identify patterns and relationships among different variables.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to navigating complex stakeholder relationships, while being able to negotiate effectively with diverse groups of individuals and organisations.
  • Willingness to complete a criminal history screening clearance.

Desirable

  • Lived experience of disability.
  • Previous experience at a Community Legal Centre, social justice organisation and/or disability advocacy organisation, would be advantageous.
  • Legal/social work/allied health qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Advocacy experience (legal or non-legal).
  • Ability to travel to engage with stakeholders and the community.
