The Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak (QATSICPP) is the peak body representing, advocating, and supporting Queensland's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child protection and family support sector and youth justice.
By sharing our collective knowledge and experience, we can all make a positive impact on policies and practices to stop the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Queensland’s child protection and youth justice systems.

About the role

The Project Officer will support the design and development of alternative care models for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children that are grounded in culture, are community-led, designed and delivered, and enable children to thrive in their own families, in the community and are safe.

Typical Duties and responsibilities

  • Support the project lead in the review of children, young people and families interacting with the child protection system, with a particular emphasis on alternatives to residential care that can be implemented and adapted across urban, regional and remote communities.
  • Effectively engage, consult, and partner with QATSICPP staff, members, and other stakeholders to inform the program's design, development and implementation.
  • Support the development of high-quality resources and tools and provide accurate and detailed advice to service delivery that is based on evidence.
  • Develop and maintain productive, professional relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
  • Proven ability to coordinate bringing together Community Controlled Organisations (CCOs) and stakeholders to review, refine and ensure project outcomes are achieved.
  • Other tasks as directed.

Desired skills, experience, and capabilities

  • Previous experience in child protection and/or youth justice systems and services, ideally in the community-controlled sector.
  • Knowledge or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999 (Qld) and a good understanding of the current Child Safety Reforms, Initiatives and Programs.
  • Demonstrated and strong experience in developing project and implementation plans to a high standard and the ability to evaluate, monitor, and report on deliverables.
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisations in child protection and youth justice.
  • Knowledge of system and practice issues impacting on quality service delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the excellence and cultural integrity of the community-controlled sector.
  • Highly experienced in building, maintaining, and strengthening partnerships with various people and stakeholders.
  • High level of experience in communication of written briefs, reports and documents, and an excellent verbal communicator, with experience in facilitating meetings, workshops, and forums.

Mandatory requirements

  • Possession of a degree and/or post graduate studies in Social Science, Social Policy or Human Services is highly desirable.
  • A valid Queensland Working with Children's Card (Blue Card) or eligible to apply.
  • Driver’s licence.
  • A current valid Queensland Working with Children’s Card (Blue Card) or eligible to apply.
  • Ability to travel within Queensland to support activities.
