ABOUT THE YOUNG WORKERS HUB

The YWH educates, supports and campaigns for young workers and operates out of the Queensland Council of Unions (QCU). We run World of Work and Safety sessions in education settings, operate a support line and develop activists to run campaigns important to them.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The YWH Lead will lead a small team of one organiser and activists in Queensland and drive the education, support and campaign arms of the YWH. They will be a part of the peak body for Unions in Queensland, working to support campaigns at a state and national level.

The role reports to the General Secretary of the QCU.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage and build relationships with QCU affiliate Unions and stakeholders;
• Lead a small team of one organiser and activists to implement education goals and workplace or industry campaigns;
• Support the QCU Youth Committee, including the formation and development of youth committees with interested QCU affiliated Unions;
• Provide required reporting on implementation of goals and campaign plans;
• Lead industrial, communication and campaign strategy;
• Assess and support the development of the Organiser and activists;
• Ensure the YWH’s values of equality, diversity and action are upheld.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

The Lead Organiser demonstrates:

• A passion for young workers rights and the Union movement;
• Proven experience in organising and campaigning;
• Ability to lead a small team and develop activists;
• Excellent communication, messaging and rapport building skills;
• Experience in developing strategy, plans and reports.

To perform this job you will also be required to have or obtain:

• A valid driver’s licence;
• A working with children card;
• Up to date immunisations against COVID-19 or have a medical exemption

REMUNERATION

An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, including:

• Salary range from $117 000
• 15% superannuation
