About the Role

We are looking for an experienced business, community, or educational representative with Financial knowldge to join the QUT Guild Board and/or Board Finance Committee. This is an independent Board member role, and current QUT students are not eligible to apply.

Key Details:

  • Position Type: Voluntary, independent Board member
  • Term: Two-year appointment from 1 February 2025 to 30 November 2026
  • Compensation: No directorial fees, but reasonable costs incurred in connection with the role will be reimbursed
  • Commitment: Approximately six Board meetings and/or six Finance Sub-Committee meetings per year, held at the QUT Kelvin Grove Campus

The ideal candidate will be committed to supporting student representation in a transparent manner and operating within a complex not-for-profit framework. Your expertise will contribute to ensuring the Board remains diverse and well-rounded. The retiring board member brought significant expertise in Finance, and we are seeking someone to replace that knowledge, which is essential for the success of the Board.

Since 1966, the QUT Guild has been the voice of change and support for all students at QUT. We are committed to advocating for student rights, enhancing student wellbeing, and ensuring every student has the best possible university experience.

Our activities are led by elected student representatives who serve on key university committees. These representatives provide invaluable input on behalf of the QUT student community, helping to shape university policies and agreements. The Guild serves as an advocate for students, ensuring their voices are heard in critical decisions.

The Guild was established under section 34 of the QUT Act 1998. Representing and supporting students since 1966, the Guild’s mission is to advocate for student rights and enhance the overall student experience at QUT.

About the Ideal Candidate

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • At least 10 years of practical experience in finance at a senior management or CFO level
  • Professional qualifications (CPA or CA)

Highly Regarded:

  • Previous experience as a Board member
  • Graduate or fellow status with the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD)
  • Experience within a not-for-profit or education environment
